Bystander shot dead in “random police shooting”
Two police officers from Velingrad, near Pazardjik, shot dead a 68-year-old man in a random shooting incident. The head of the Pazardjik regional police department, Colonel Zhoro Stoitzev, has handed in his resignation.
The tragedy took place on August 1 at around 3 p.m. when the two policemen from the Velingrad district police department, Stoyan Pachalov and Rosen Ovcharov, were practicing their shooting near a mountain lodge just above Velingrad. One of the bullets rebounded and hit the victim Georgi Bozhanov in the left eye. The police officers took the man in their car, but he died en route to the hospital.
The two officers engaged in the shooting have been suspended and are being investigated by the Plovdiv Military Prosecution.
