Police check concludes that offensive inscriptions on Islamic buildings are "anti-ethnic"

Sofia, 10 May 2008 - The Chief Mufti's Office does not cooperate sufficiently with the Interior Ministry to identify the perpetrators of acts of desecration of mosques, according to interior minister Mihail Mikov. He called on the staff of the Islamic houses of worship to provide CCTV footage of attacks against Sofia mosques. According to Mikov, the footage had been requested by the Interior Ministry, but it had still not been handed over.

The interior minister also stated that the check initiated to investigate the attacks against the building of the Chief Mufti's Office in Sofia and of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms office in Burgas established that the attacks were "anti-ethnic" and not "anti-political".
