The Vratza Education Inspectorate threatens strike committees with legal action
Vratza, 24 September 2007 - The tension in the teachers' strike is escalating with the latest actions of the Regional Education Inspectorates (REI), according to the leader of the Podkrepa Trade Union in Vratza, Desislava Dimitrova.
Dimitrova claims that the REI have requested from school directors strike documentation, including minutes of the teachers' assembly. She claims this is illegal. School directors who refused to hand in the documentation were reportedly threaten with legal action.
The Bulgarian government does not respect the principles and the policy of the EU. If the Bulgarian Minister of Education is making lists with the names of the striking teachers and intends to dismiss them, this is abominable, said Martin Romer, General Secretary of the International Education Organisation Education Commission.
